FINE FOOTBALL FROM RESERVES

18 April 2013

Second-string beat The Spireites...

THE SADDLERS' reserve team played some excellent football to run out 4-2 winners at Chesterfield on a very windy Wednesday evening.

"We started the game brightly, playing some good, controlled possession football," said reserve team boss, Neil Woods. "We took the lead with another Alex Dallison header from a corner, but our hosts were back on level terms within five minutes.

"With Nicky Featherstone influential in all aspects of our play, we scored a fabulous team goal with around 20 passes before James Baxendale found the net.

"We went in at the break in front and although Chesterfield equalised early in the second half, we soon took total control of the game. Playing some excellent football, the best by any of our teams at any level this season, our hosts had no answer to us and George Bowerman notched two goals, the second a particularly impressive individual effort.

"I was really pleased with the energy and quality of our football on the night."

WALSALL: Belshaw, George (Sinton), Christopherou, Dallison, Benning, Baxendale (Sterling-James), Kinsella, Featherstone, Hemmings, Sawyers (Griffiths), Bowerman. Subs: Rush, Roberts.
