BOSS ON FINAL DAY DEFEAT

27 April 2013

Smith reflects on final game of the 2012/13 season...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, has reflected on our final day defeat at Crewe Alexandra.

"I thought that we played well on a tough pitch," he said. "Both teams tried to play the right way. We had enough chances to have taken something from the game, but we didn't take them and it cost us.

"All the work that goes on and the momentum that we were looking to take into the summer was undone by a poor decision which allowed them to get in front.

"We were on the front-foot in the second half and were the most likely team to score until the penalty.

"That said, we can take a great deal of pride in what we have done this season. It's been a great season and now we move on and look to build upon it.

"Full credit to Crewe; they have good players and an Academy system that has worked extremely well for many years. We want to follow that and progress as a club and we feel that we are doing that."
