29 April 2013

Front-man proud to be Player of the Season as Paterson gets Young Player prize for second year in a row...

WILL Grigg walked away with the 2012/13 Player of the Season prize following a highly-successful campaign in which he became the first Walsall player in 12 years to reach the 20-goal mark.

"I was really thrilled to win the award," said the Northern Ireland International who received his award from Saddlers' goalscoring legend, Alan Buckley. "It's a big honour for me and my family.

"I'm delighted to join some illustrious names who have won this award in the past and it's a nice way to end what has been a really positive season for myself and the team.

"At the start I just wanted to get into double figures, but to score 20 goals has been fantastic and it's been a real team effort this year."

Grigg also walked away with the Players' Player of the Season prize whilst Jamie Paterson won the the Young Player of the Season award for the second year in a row.

"I'm really pleased to get this award," said Paterson. "It's nice recognition for my performances throughout the season.

"I didn't really set myself any targets at the outset. I just wanted to make progress and build on what I did during the previous season.

"This year I've started every game and weighed in with 13 goals, so I've been pleased with the way in which things have panned out for me."
