YOUNGSTERS DRAW IN WALES

3 September 2012

Youth team come back from two goals down to share the spoils...

IT WAS a day of 2-2 draws for The Saddlers on Saturday as the youth team also shared four goals in their game at Wrexham.

"We started poorly and went a goal down early on," said Head of Youth, Neil Woods. "To be fair to Wrexham, they caused us a lot of problems early on and we struggled to cope defensively and didn't compete well enough.

"With the ball we looked okay and played some decent stuff at times but without it we were not so good and our hosts extended their lead going into the break.

"We were a lot better in the second half and reduced the arrears with a free-kick from Jake Heath.

"It gave us added confidence but we went on to miss yet another penalty - our fifth in six games.

"The lads refused to let their heads drop, though, and we went on to equalise through Jacob Hobbis.

"After that we hit the post and crossbar as we searched for the winner, whilst at the other end of the field we looked much more solid and assured in defensive situations.

"In the end a draw was probably a fair result, but from our point of view it was a disappointing performance on the back of our display against Oldham in the previous game. Unfortunately we failed to reach those standards that we set ourselves."

WALSALL: Jones, Christopherou (Dallison), Williams,l Flanagan, Preston, Garner (Ashmore), Hobbis, Heath, Griffiths, Rush (McKenzie), Reid. Subs not used: Sinton, Kinsella.
