The boss on victory at Portsmouth...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith was full of smiles as his side extended their unbeaten run with a fine 2-1 win at Portsmouth.

"We played really well today," he said. "I felt that we started the game brightly and then there was a 15/20-minute spell where we had to hold on, but we came through it and achieved a deserved victory.

"We got higher up the pitch in the second half and our ball retention and use of the ball was much better. The two goals that we scored were great finishes.

"I told the lads before the game to just go out and play and not worry about the atmosphere. The Portsmouth fans are great and really get behind their team, but we dealt with it well and held things together when we needed to.

"We've got pace, trickery, invention and creation and can cause any team problems.

"There were a lot of good performances out there today; it was a team display with everyone playing their part against good opposition.

"It now gives us something positive to take into Tuesday's game at Stevenage. They are an organised side who made the play-offs last season, so it will be another tough challenge.

"That said, we are aware of their threats and are making people sit up and take notice of what we are doing. We are looking forward to the game and will take the confidence that comes with winning matches into it."
