Local sporting hero here on Saturday...
WALSALL boxer, Martin Gethin, will be paying a visit to the Banks’s Stadium on Saturday ahead of his IBF Lightweight Title showdown with Carl Johanneson.
Martin will be fighting for the IBF crown at Walsall Town Hall on Friday, 21st September. The local lad, who is a lifelong Saddlers fan, is taking time out of his gruelling training regime and will appear on the pitch at half-time.
“It’s great to have Martin Gethin here on Saturday,” said Club Secretary, Daniel Mole. “He is a local lad who we should all be proud of.
"He’s bounced back to win his last seven fights and this IBF title showdown could really put him on the world boxing map. Hopefully the people of the town will turn up and support him.
“It’s important to get behind our local sports stars. We’ve invited Ellie Simmonds to the Banks’s Stadium too and hope that she’ll take up our invitation at some point.”
