Baxendale bangs the drums...
A PRE-MATCH blast of the Stone Roses helped James Baxendale notch his first goal for the club as we came away from Portsmouth with a 2-1 success."I think that playing the Stone Roses in the dressing room before the game spurred us on," he said. "The Gaffer is a big fan as well and it meant we went out there with a bit of a swagger.
"It was a good team performance where everyone played their part. Obviously I was delighted to get my first goal; Ashley Hemmings showed good work-rate on the left and I managed to peel away from my man and get a decent contact on the ball.
"I'm really pleased how things are going; it's got to be a team game and I'm part of that, so if I can play my part in helping us win then that's great.
"To be honest, I just love being out there playing and I want to be in the team week in, week out. I'm enjoying the role that I'm playing in at the moment and hopefully I can maintain the standards that I have set myself.
"The spirit here is fantastic and we are working hard both on and off-the-ball. There's a buzz around the training ground and it's a good place to be right now.
"We've got to keep believing in ourselves; we've got a squad of players here where everyone knows their role and what is expected of them. It's all about what we do and if we're at it on Tuesday, there is no reason why we can't come home with another three points from Stevenage."
