YOUNGSTERS FALL TO WREXHAM

16 October 2012

Home defeat for Neil Woods' youngsters...

THE SADDLERS' youth team slipped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wrexham.

"We started the game well and for the opening quarter-of-an-hour we played some good football," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We fell behind to a set-piece, which was particularly disappointing but for the remainder of the half there wasn't much in it and I was generally pleased with our display.

"The second period started with us conceding an own goal within the opening ten minutes and it knocked us back. We never really recovered from it and didn't reach the standards that I know we are capable of.

"Wrexham went on to break away and grab a third goal and credit to them, they played well on the day.

"The most disappointing thing for me was our reaction to going two goals down; we have showed character and determination in this situation before but not on this occasion.

"We need to show more resolve and stick to the principles that we work on every day. We have to learn from this."

WALSALL: Roberts, Ashmore (Kinsella), Williams, Sinton, Christopherou, Preston, Hobbis, Heath, Griffiths, Rush (Bakayoko), Flanagan (McKenzie). Subs not used: Garner, Reid.
