FA Youth Cup defeat for youngsters...

THE SADDLERS' youth team fell out of the FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle with a 1-0 defeat at Port Vale.

"We started the game very well and for the opening 10/15 minutes we played some decent football," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "During that period we created a couple of decent half-chances and Jacob Hobbis caused our hosts problems.

"They came back into it as the half went on and with the scores locked at 0-0 at the interval, there was little in it.

"We never got going in the second half; we worked hard but failed to create any real openings and our hosts took the lead on 65 minutes from a corner, which was particularly disappointing.

"We had a go in the final 25 minutes but never real played through them and in the end it was a frustrating and disappointing evening for us.

"It was a big night for the boys as we played on the main pitch at Vale Park and although we did okay, it was no better than that.

"We now have another Cup game at the weekend and I will be looking for a response."

WALSALL: Roberts, Ashmore, Henry (Williams), Sinton, Christopherou, Preston (Kinsella), Hobbis, Heath, Griffiths, Rush (McKenzie), Flanagan. Subs not used: Reid, Jones.
