Boss gets set for the Trophy trail...

WE GO into the game on the back of a disappointing home defeat at the hands of Carlisle United at the weekend.

On reflection, having watched the match again, although we hadn't reached some of the heights of previous games, some of our play was excellent again.

We have to maintain consistency in our play and performances to achieve the desired results. I would also give credit to Carlisle, as they proved to be tough opposition with good, honest players working really hard for each other which resulted in a game of two teams going at each other for the three points.

This is a competition that I want to do well in and with a Wembley Final at the end of it, it deserves plenty of respect.

Winning matches and making progress breeds confidence amongst the players and interest in the club plus there are the financial rewards that come with it.

It’s going to be a tough game as Port Vale have started the season well plus it has the added spice of being a local derby.

As a former Port Vale player, I wish them well in their League campaign, but obviously we are focusing all of our attention on overcoming the hurdle that they will present to us.

In this our third home game in a week, I thank you all most sincerely for the tremendous support that you have given to the team. Your backing is much appreciated and long may it continue.
