SMITH ON SHREWS SET-BACK

14 October 2012

Boss reflects on undeserved loss...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith has reflected upon our 1-0 reverse at Shrewsbury in a game where Walsall dominated for long periods.

"Our failure to convert the chances that we created is what cost us the game," he said. "I'm pleased that it was on television because people can see for themselves the way we are trying to play and what we're trying to achieve here.

"It was one of those games. Their goalkeeper did really well and on another day we'd have scored four or five.

"There's a consistency in the way we are creating chances and I am confident that if we continue to perform like this, we will win more than we lose this season.

"We've got a belief in what we're trying to do and I am pleased with how we are progressing. I just can't understand how we didn't score today and I'll still be scratching my head when I watch the game back this evening.

"But we move on to the next game now and make sure that we are ready for the visit of Crewe on Saturday.

"We've not done a lot wrong in our last three games and have come away with no points. Shrewsbury will be feeling rather fortunate tonight."
