Saddlers backing World Mental Health Day...

SANDWELL Mind have saddled up with Walsall FC in a bid to raise awareness of World Mental Health Day on Wednesday October 10th. 

To kick-off promotional events ahead of the big day, The Saddlers’ players will be wearing specially designed promotional t-shirts while warming up for their clash with Carlisle at the Banks’s Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in and around the stadium ahead of the npower League One fixture volunteers from the mental health charity will be handing out balloons and leaflets as well as offering useful advice in regards to promoting positive mental health.

Sandwell Mind Chief Executive, Monica Shafaq, said: “World Mental Health Day is the most significant day in the calendar for us and other mental health organisations so it is an unbelievable gesture by Walsall FC to offer their help and support in raising awareness of it.

“We are all really looking forward to meeting up with the fans before the game and hopefully together we can raise awareness, while also showing a red card to the stigma attached to mental health.

“We are keen to promote positive mental health across Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton and thanks to Walsall FC we will be able to do this on Saturday.” 

“We are happy to play our part in promoting World Mental Health Day,” added Walsall FC Club Secretary Daniel Mole. “Walsall FC pride ourselves on being a positive role model in our local community and, hopefully, by supporting this worthwhile cause we can help remove the stigma attached to mental illness whilst publicising the superb work undertaken by organisations such as Sandwell Mind.”

Sandwell Mind work across Walsall, Sandwell and Wolverhampton offering various services including therapies, counselling, residential support, workshops and activities. The event marks the start of a busy week of activities to promote World Mental Health Day including visits to local shopping centres, colleges and libraries as well as host of online features, competitions and campaigns it will; will running on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SandwellMind and Twitter account at twitter.com/Sandwell_Mind.
