Smith on JPT exit...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith has reflected upon our Johnstone's Paint Trophy exit at the hands of Port Vale as we slipped to a 6-5 defeat on penalties after the game ended 2-2.

"In terms of the performance, it was good in stages," he said. "We went two goals up and were in control but then a sloppy pass allowed them back into it and credit to Vale, their tails were up and they took advantage.

"As I say, some of our play was very good, it's just disappointing how it ended. You don't see that many penalties missed that often, but it wasn't to be in the end.

"We now look forward to Sunday's game at Shrewsbury. It's a good chance for the players to show what they can do in front of the cameras.

"There is plenty of belief here in developing and educating players and progressing as a club. These defeats won't detract from what we are doing here and the way we go about things."
