YOUNGSTERS WIN AT SHREWS

20 November 2012

Commanding win for Woods' side...

THE SADDLERS' youth team ran out worthy 3-1 winners at Shrewsbury Town.

"We started the game brightly," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We had good possession for the ball for long periods and took a deserved lead with a super goal.

"Jacob Hobbis and Jamie Ashmore combined well to set up Danny Griffiths who made no mistake.

"The turning point of the game came shortly afterwards when Griffiths found himself clean through only to be brought down from behind by the Shrewsbury defender who was duly sent off.

"It meant that our hosts had little attacking intentions and we made it 2-0 before the break with a fine solo goal from Reece Flanagan.

"It was an eye-opener for our boys to deal with this kind of situation, but they kept a good attitude and were rewarded with a third goal from Jake Heath.

"Shrewsbury pulled one back on the counter-attack late on, which was disappointing, but we had control of the game and ran out worthy winners in the end.

"It was a solid, all-round performance to finish off what was a very positive week for the youth team."

WALSALL: Roberts, Ashmore, Henry, Flanagan, Christopherou (Garner), Preston, Hobbis (Bakayoko), Heath, Griffiths (Sinton), Reid, McKenzie. Subs not used: Kinsella, R. Jones.
