SMITH ON SET-BACK

Boss reflects on home reverse...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith has reflected upon our heavy home defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United.

"I know, the players know and the supporters know that the performance was nowhere near good enough," he said. "This is the same group of players that were clapped off the pitch four or five weeks ago. There are good players here, but they need to start showing it again.

"I'd like to say that I saw this coming, but I didn't. Yes, we had players missing but that's no excuse because we have players throughout the squad who are good enough to compete at this level.

"Confidence comes from winning matches and our confidence has certainly been knocked, but we will stick together to sort things out and come out fighting on Saturday.

"The players have taken the plaudits this season and they have to take the criticism. We never started on the front-foot and allowed Scunthorpe into the game too easily.

"The four goals that we conceded were poor and two of them came from set-pieces, which is not good enough.

"As I say, it's about sticking together to come through this."
