SADDLERS SEND SUPPORT TO NICHOLLS

2 November 2012

T-shirt tribute to former player...

FORMER Saddler, Alex Nicholls suffered a nasty injury whilst playing for new club, Northampton Town last weekend.

Nicholls broke his tibia and fibula whilst scoring his eighth goal of the season for The Cobblers. He underwent surgery to have a nail inserted into his tibia on Saturday evening and earlier this week had a skin graft operation on the wound that he suffered in the challenge.

Before Saturday's FA Cup first round clash at Lincoln City, the Walsall players will warm-up in 'Get Well Soon Alex Nicholls' t-shirts as a show of support to a player that is still highly-regarded at the club having emerged from the Centre of Excellence to make over 200 senior appearances.

"Everyone was gutted to hear of Alex's injury as we came home from Bury last weekend," said skipper, Andy Butler. "A few of the lads have been in touch with him to let him know that we are all thinking of him.

"He’s a strong character and I know that he will bounce back from this.

"We have decided to wear ‘Get Well Soon’ t-shirts in the warm-up of our next two games just to show how much he means to us and as a mark of respect for how much he has done for this club over many years.

"He had started the season in great form, but he’ll be back doing the business again."

Club Secretary, Daniel Mole added: "The thoughts and best wishes of everyone here at Walsall Football Club go out to Alex and his family. He may have left the club in the summer but, having come up through the ranks to spend the best part of a decade at the club, he is highly thought of here at Banks’s Stadium.

"Andy Butler and I had a chat on the Saturday evening following his injury and decided to order the t-shirts. It’s only a small gesture but we felt it was the right one."
