Youngsters progress in Football League Youth Alliance Cup...
THE SADDLERS made Football League Youth Alliance Cup progress at Burnley with a dramatic 3-2 victory."On a very heavy pitch, we started well and went 1-0 up with a brave header from Danny Griffiths from a free-kick on 25 minutes," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "The conditions were difficult but both sides played good football.
"We managed to double our advantage when Jacob Hobbis finished off a one-two and we went into the break two goals up without flowing as freely as I know we can.
"Burnley came out for the second half and were the better side. They pulled a goal back on 55 minutes and put the pressure on, but we kept them at bay until two minutes from the end when the referee gave a penalty that no-one on their team appealed for.
"It was disappointing but a fair reflection on the way in which the game had panned out.
"In the 95th minute we won a free-kick on the edge of the area which Jake Heath curled home to make it 3-2.
"The lads have put in two massive efforts this week and it is great to see them get their rewards against a very good side."
