Boss on goalless draw at AFC Telford United...
THE SADDLERS got our pre-season schedule of matches underway with a goalless draw at AFC Telford United on Tuesday evening.
Manager, Dean Smith fielded two different teams in each half as he cast his eye over various trialists, emerging professionals and those established squad members.
"It was a good run out for us," he admitted. "We were able to give every player 45 minutes of action, so it was useful to be able to see where they're at.
"We played some good stuff at time and generally kept the ball well. We maybe lacked a bit of penetration, but that will come as the matches go on.
"It was a chance for some of the trialists to show me what they can do in a game situation and a number of them impressed me.
"We now move towards Saturday's game against Wolves.
"It will be nice to return to home action and it will be a different kind of challenge for us. It's a step up and will be a tough encounter, but the lads are working hard and looking forward to it."
