TEAM TALK v STEVENAGE, 1/1/2013

31 December 2012

Boss hoping to start 2013 with a win...

WE GO into our first game of 2013 on the back of a well-deserved and much-needed victory in our last game on home soil.

Whilst we had to wait a long time to get back into winning ways, there were certainly plenty of good performances along the way where we deserved greater reward, but thankfully we were able to see the game out against Colchester United and get the three points in the bag.

There were one or two hairy moments during the game, but in the end it was a deserved victory. We restricted our visitors to only a few chances and created some good opportunities of our own.

We followed up our victory over Colchester with another excellent three points at MK Dons on Boxing Day and a good performance at Leyton Orient which deserved some reward.

Everyone is playing their part at the moment and during what is a busy period, we are looking after ourselves in the right way in order to be ready for each game.

This will be another tough one, there is no doubt about that. Stevenage are a big and powerful side who, just like last season, are challenging in the higher echelons of the table.

We had a real battle at their place earlier in the season and we’re going to have to roll our sleeves up and work hard again on New Year's Day.

The key now, as we step into 2013, is to ensure that we are consistent in our performances and continue to accumulate the points. The players are certainly putting the effort in and I want to see them getting the rewards in terms of points.

We’re back here on Friday when we take on Portsmouth in front of the live Sky Sports cameras, so we will be keen to put on another impressive display in front of a national audience, but before we focus on that, we have a challenge ahead against Stevenage where we’ll need the full support and backing of our fans in order to emerge with the result that we all crave.

Thank you for your valued support… Here’s to a successful 2013!

Happy New Year one and all...

DEAN SMITH
