The boss previews our Capital One Cup clash with Brentford...

WE GO into what is our first competitive game of the season with a fully fit squad to choose from and everyone looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Obviously, we want to make progress in every competition that we enter and being at home to a fellow League One outfit gives us that opportunity.

The preparations have gone well during pre-season. The lads have brought into what we are trying to achieve here and the squad that I have been able to assemble is one that I believe can progress and get better.

We've brought in a high number of new faces, but most of them have been together for a month now and they are building up relationships and getting to know each other. There is a nice mix of youth and experience amongst them with plenty of energy and desire.

There is no reason why we can't be up there. The spirit is good here and we have the potential to move forward.

Last season we were hard to beat and solid defensively and now we have added an energetic aspect to that. We've tried to do things the right way during pre-season and hopefully the rewards will follow.

Brentford had a solid season last year and will be looking to build on that. Like us, they will want to start the new season on a winning note and make it into the next round.

Our supporters have another important role to play this season and I look forward to receiving your backing from the very first whistle.
