STALEMATE FOR YOUNGSTERS

Youth team start season with a draw...

THE SADDLERS' youth team started their season with a goalless draw at Port Vale.

"It was a frustrating start in terms of the result," admitted Head of Youth, Neil Woods. "We went into the game on the back of an impressive pre-season but we didn't quite reach the standards that we have set ourselves.

"We were also guilty of missing another penalty - our third in the last three games.

"On the day, our creative players weren't able to effect the game as much as they have done. We were in control for long periods, but I feel that we were lacking a cutting edge, something that we will hopefully be able to rectify as things go on."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Aris, Sinton (McKenzie), Preston, Dallison, Hobbis, Heath, Griffiths, Rush (Reid), Flanagan. Subs not used: Kinsella, Williams, Garner.

The youth team will play host to Chasetown in the first round of the Midland Youth Cup on Wednesday, August 22nd (kick-off 7.00pm).

For those of you attending this fixture, please be aware that the traffic lights at the top of the road outside the stadium (by The Broadway and Morrisons) will be closed from 8pm until 6am on August 20th to 25th (thus affecting those leaving the ground after the game).

Access from the Stadium will therefore be via Walstead Road West and around from there.
