PATIENCE KEY FOR JONES

31 August 2012

Emerging youngster starting to make an impact...

PATIENCE is paying off for emerging wide-man, Jake Jones.

The youth team product signed his first professional deal in the summer of 2011 and spent a large part of last season out on loan at Redditch United.

Displaying a willing and committed attitude, the 19 year-old was given his chance to shine during the pre-season games and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Finding himself on the bench in each game so far, he was given a taste of the action at Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening to go along with his first senior outing against Brentford in the previous round of the Capital One Cup.

"It was a bit of a frustrating time last year," he admitted. "But I got my head down and put the work in and now it's nice to be able to show the fans what I'm about and let the Gaffer know that I am ready for first-team football.

"I'm just taking every game as it comes and hopefully I can continue to push-on and get a starting place as the season goes on.

"Going on loan last year made me stronger and certainly improved my confidence as a player; it was a worthwhile experience, which has stood me in good stead."

Local lad Jones was introduced into the action during the second half at Loftus Road on Tuesday as we came up against an expensively-assembled Rangers' line-up. "It was a good experience to be involved and then to get on against some big names was tremendous for me.

"We tried to play our usual game and gave a good account of ourselves.

"We've got a lot of young lads this season and we're all helping each other and progressing as a group. We've certainly got the ability and are trying to pass the ball around at every opportunity.

"Hopefully that will bring its rewards and we can find ourselves challenging at the right end of the table.

"As I say, there's plenty of emerging talent here and from a personal point of view it's about continuing to work hard, getting that bit of luck along the way and hopefully things will pan out well for me."
