HOLDEN LOOKING TO BUILD

23 August 2012

No-nonsense defender seeks more points from The Magpies...

NO-NONSENSE central defender, Dean Holden is looking for The Saddlers to build on our first point of the season, which we secured at his former club, Oldham Athletic on Tuesday evening.

"The way the game went, maybe on reflection we deserved more than a point," he admitted. "That said, we went there looking to get off the mark in terms of points on the board, and we did that.

"It was a tough game against opposition who were physical and don't give you time on the ball, but we acquitted ourselves well and, to be fair, Groffy didn't have too much to do.

"We face a different type of challenge at Notts County on Saturday, but I am confident that we can go there and get the three points."

Holden is one of the more experienced heads in an otherwise youthful team and his presence both on and off-the-field is certainly reaping its rewards.

"We've got some good, young lads here who bring energy to the side and go out for each game with no fear. It was great to see both George Bowerman and Aaron Williams come off the bench on Tuesday night and make such an impact.

"George took his goal really and to have these young lads ready to step in is good because we know that it's going to be a squad game.

"Whilst we're not the most physical of teams, we've got the ability to get the ball down and move it around. A lot of teams at this level are similar in style to Oldham where it's all about being first to the second balls and I am confident we can do that."

If you are unable to make it along to Saturday's game at Notts County, fear not as Saddlers Player will have live, full match commentary...
