Smith reflects as Bees are stung...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith has reflected upon our Capital One Cup first round victory over Brentford as Ashley Hemmings' debut goal secured our place in the next round.

"It was a really good start to the season for us," he said. "It's nice to get off to a winning start and I was particularly pleased with our first half performance where the inter-play and rotation of the players was excellent.

"We had to weather a bit of an early storm from them but we came through it and once we got the ball down and moved it, we controlled the game.

"They regrouped and changed their system for the start of the second half and, to be fair, it took us a while to get to grips with it, but on the ball, I was pleased with how we performed.

"The victory raises confidence and gives us a taster of what we'll be up against this season. It shows that we can compete and now we look forward to getting our League campaign underway next weekend.

"We have a number of players in the team who can score goals and if we play like we did today, chances will come our way.

"There are some good characters in the team this season and there is a fantastic team ethic that will serve us well."
