WITH Richard Taundry and Jamie Vincent now itching for a return to action, we are in the fortunate position of having a fully fit squad to choose from.
Everyone has to stay on their toes; we have the players to be able to change things around if need be and it certainly gives me a headache, but it's the sort of headache I want!
We can't afford to rest on our laurels; we have to remain calm and keep our feet firmly on the ground. Our good recent form means that we are there to be shot at.
The lads are confident and looking forward to what promises to be an entertaining encounter against a high-profile club. Southampton have spent a lot of money and have some good, experienced players in their squad. Alan Pardew has started to turn things around and will be keen to continue that improvement.
They have players all over the pitch that can cause problems and are sure to bring a large away following to help stimulate a good atmosphere inside the stadium. That said, had they not had that ten-point deficit, they would still find themselves a point behind us.
It's the start of a tough period of matches where we will need to utilise our squad. We are constantly striving to do better and look to improve. We know that there will be off-days along the way, as is the case at every club, but the key is how we respond to the set-backs.
I came very close to making changes to the team for Tuesday's game at Yeovil, but in the end I decided against it and got exactly the response I was looking for in a good, all-round battling performance as we came away with three points from a side who had lost just once in their previous nine home League games.
