THIS is a competition that we will be taking very seriously. With a Wembley Final and a pot of prize money up for grabs, it would be foolish for us to not treat the competition with the respect that it deserves.

Winning breeds confidence and a run in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy would give the club a lift on many different levels.

Everyone has a role to play in this and I will be looking for our supporters to get behind the team and help us in our quest to make the Banks's Stadium a fortress.

The atmosphere against Leeds has whetted our appetite and I call upon each and every one of you to turn up the volume. We will be hoping to make home advantage count this evening and ensure that we are involved in the second round draw.

Of course, Bury will have other ideas and will come here full of determination and prepared to roll their sleeves up and work hard. If we can match that, it will give us every chance of making progress.

There is competition for places in all positions and that is a healthy thing. I have been pleased with the way in which the younger members of the squad have developed and now it is up to them to start pushing on and display the required level of consistency.
