CHRIS HUTCHINGS v GILLINGHAM, 29/8/2009

Posted on: Fri 28 Aug 2009

LOOKING back at our last game at Charlton, I felt that we were slow coming out of the blocks at the start. We found ourselves on the back-foot for much of the first half but gradually came into it as the game went on.

There was a bit more urgency about us in the second half, but we have to hold our hands up and say that they were the better side on the day.

Too many of our players were not on the mark and you can't afford to do that against a side like Charlton, who are going to be there or thereabouts in the promotion race come the end of the season.

We will analyse what we have to work on, which we do after every game regardless of whether we win or lose, and get ready to go again against Gillingham.

Our visitors started the season well and whilst it is fair to say that recent results haven't gone their way, they are obviously a threat and we will have to perform in order to secure the points on offer.

I expect them to come here full of energy and ethusiasm following their promotion last season, but I am confident that if we reach the standards that I know we are capable of, we will give ourselves every chance of getting a positive result come the final whistle.

We have to make the Banks's Stadium a fortress. The atmosphere that was generated in our last home game against Leeds has certainly whetted the appetite and our supporters have such a key role to play in helping us to achieve this.
