CHRIS HUTCHINGS v BRISTOL ROVERS, 14/3/2009
OBVIOUSLY the most disappointing aspect of Tuesday's game against Crewe Alexandra was that they equalised so late on.
The ball bobbled about inside the area and it was one of those situations where you hoped that one of our lads would get on the end of it to clear, but they didn't and it allowed Crewe to snatch a point.
Credit to Crewe, though, as they kept going until the bitter end and that is what you have to do in this game.
I thought that we put in a workmanlike performance. It was a pretty even game on the whole, but it opened up late on. Once again the lads worked extremely hard; we knew it would be tough against an in-form side who are playing with a lot of confidence, and so it proved.
It's a case of onwards and upwards as we look forward to playing host to Bristol Rovers at the weekend. They are in a similar position to us in the middle of the table. They have had a string of good results, so we know that it will be a tough game.
They have players who can cause problems and we will have to deal with them. Rickie Lambert in particular is a quality player at this level and we will respect him but not fear him.
We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves and I prefer to only look as far as the next game. My job is to get the best out of the players and instil confidence in them that will take us forward.
It is a major boost to have Anthony Gerard back in training. He is desperate to return to action, but we have to be careful with him and guard against rushing him back too soon. He will be monitored closely.
