JIMMY MULLEN v HARTLEPOOL UNITED, 18/10/2008
LOOKING back at our last game, to be fair to Peterborough, they played very well and deserved to win, I have no qualms about that.
I was disappointed with the way in which we conceded within the first minute; it set the standard and gave us a real mountain to climb against decent opposition.
We were taught a lesson, but it is all part of our learning curve. I think this will be a reality check for us, but that said, the players have done extremely well so far this season and I am confident that we can bounce back from this blip in the right way.
We have a good group of players here and we will put this behind us and move on. We've got where we are through hard work and endeavour, so let's get back to that.
On the positive side, we kept going to the bitter end, as our goal in the dying seconds proved.
Our challenging month continues with the visit of Hartlepool United on Saturday. They are sure to be well-organised and committed opposition and we're going to have to be at our best in order to get the result that we desire.
Danny Wilson is an experienced manager who likes his team to get the ball down and pass it. He has built a big and physical team that are strong going forward. I believe that they are currently in a false position in the table and are sure to be up there challenging before too long.
After today we have two very difficult away trips to Leicester City and Leeds United coming up. With the resources and fan base that both clubs have, I would expect them to be up there at the right end of the table come the end of the season.
As a result we will find out what we are really made of, but if we play with the same level of commitment, passion and willingness to work as we have done in recent weeks, we will give ourselves every chance in these games.
We have a nice mix of youth and experience here; all the lads are good pros and it's a case of keeping our feet on the ground, being sensible and taking each game as it comes. The experienced members of the squad have all been at successful clubs in the past and their influence is a big help to the younger players around them.
I am fortunate to have plenty of options; we have players who give us energy and drive and can fill in a number of different roles.
Of course, we will need your full backing and support on Saturday as we look get back into winning ways.
