JIMMY MULLEN v SCUNTHORPE UNITED - AUGUST 16TH
HAVING gone out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle on Tuesday evening, I am looking for the players to bounce back in the right way on Saturday. Their effort cannot be faulted and I am sure that they will give me the response that I am looking for.
Looking back at the Darlington game, I was disappointed that we didn't kill the match off at 1-0. We missed a couple of good opportunities and that kept them in it. Obviously the sending off had a major bearing on the way that things went, but fair play to Darlington as they made us chase the game and got their reward in the end.
Scunthorpe United have started the season with two defeats, but I fully expect them to be up there challenging this season. They have a strong squad and it will give us a good gauge of where we're at. Nigel Adkins likes his side to get the ball down and pass and their recent Championship experience is sure to stand them in good stead.
Our second half performance at Yeovil seven days ago was impressive and I felt that we did more than enough to win the game. If we continue in a similar vein then we will win more than we lose this season.
We want to put on a performance for our first home League game. We know it's going to be tough, but we are looking forward to it. Hopefully there will be a good crowd in attendance and if we play to our capabilities we have every chance of getting a winning result.
