NORTHAMPTON TOWN TEAM TALK

Posted on: Fri 07 Mar 2008

WE WERE delighted to come out of the last two tricky-looking away games with maximum points.

At Swindon we put in a tremendous performance from start to finish and our response to having an early goal chalked off was first-class. We had good control of the game and looked a real threat all afternoon, defending with good resolve when we had to.

Last weekend at Luton we started extremely brightly and created some good early chances. The conditions were not easy with a difficult pitch and a swirling wind, but we kept them at arm's length and were resolute.

Sometimes at this time of the year, when the pressure starts to build and the results become all important, that's the be all and end all and we were delighted to bring home three points from a side that were battling for their lives.

It was nice to see Stefan Moore make a goalscoring start to his career with us last weekend. He is an intelligent front-man who I have known for a long time.

I am well aware of what he is capable of; he was full of promise during his days as a youngster at Aston Villa and I feel that we may have signed him at the right time in his career.

His movement is excellent and, as proved at Kenilworth Road, he will get into the right positions to score goals. He has been brought up the right way and is a welcome addition to our squad.

We received a further boost earlier in the week when Rhys Weston put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension.

He has developed into an important member of the team with his performance levels becoming more and more consistent as the season has progressed. We hope that over the next two years he will continue to be an important player for Walsall Football Club.

On Saturday we welcome a Northampton Town side who have been in impressive recent form and sit just outside the play-off zone.

This will be our fourth game against them this season and each of our previous encounters have been closely-fought affairs. I am expecting something similar this time around.

We make a prompt return to home action on Tuesday when we play host to Brighton, who are another side with play-off aspirations.

As we approach the run-in to the end of the season, we are going to need your full support and backing now more than ever. You have been extremely vocal at our last couple of away games and I would like to think that this will continue in the important games that lie ahead.
