Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.

CARL EMBERSON: Former Colchester United goalkeeper who understudied Jimmy Walker, featuring in Walsall's 2000-01 promotion campaign. He made eight League appearances prior to joining Luton Town in July 2001 and won promotion again in 2001-02, since playing for Southend, Grays and Sutton United.

NEIL EMBLEN: Former Wolves midfielder who initially joined Walsall on loan from Norwich City in January 2003. He returned to Bescot Stadium four months later and featured in successive relegation battles, netting seven goals in 80 League outings before joining New Zealand Knights in May 2005.

DANNY EMBLETON: Ex-Liverpool trainee goalkeeper whose only League appearance was in Walsall's 0-0 draw at Hereford in August 1994. He joined VS Rugby in December 1994, then played for Holywell, Bamber Bridge, Atherton LR, Flint, Marine, Conwy United, Rhyl, Colwyn Bay, Caernarfon and Oswestry.

PIERRE ESSERS: Dutch striker who joined Walsall from Belgian side Charleroi in September 1991 and made his solitary fourth division appearance in The Saddlers' 0-0 draw at home to Lincoln City two months later, gaining his first-team chance after the end of Paul McLoughlin's loan spell. He then returned to Holland.

ALUN EVANS: Former Wolves, Liverpool and England Under-23 striker who joined Walsall from Aston Villa in December 1975. He helped The Saddlers reach the FA Cup fifth round in 1977-78 and netted seven goals in 87 League games, joining South Melbourne in July 1978 and also playing in Australia for Hellas.

HUGH EVANS: Welsh inside-left who moved to Walsall from Bournemouth in August 1951 and was joint leading marksman in 1951-52, netting 12 goals in 36 League outings prior to joining Watford in August 1952. He later played for Bedford Town, then Hitchin Town and ran a grocery shop in Luton.

KEN EVANS: Former Swansea goalkeeper who joined Walsall in August 1957 and made two League appearances as Gordon Chilvers' understudy. He moved to Yeovil Town in July 1958, then played for Pembroke Borough and Cwmfelin, residing in his native Swansea until his death in May 2000.

MICKY EVANS: Long-serving left-back who netted seven goals in 231 League outings for Walsall before moving to Swansea City in December 1972. He followed Harry Gregg to Crewe in July 1975, then played for Worcester, Stourbridge, Stafford, Halesowen and Rushall prior to scouting for several Midlands clubs.

WAYNE EVANS: Versatile right-back who featured in Walsall's 1994-95 and 1998-99 promotion campaigns, scoring once in 183 League games before moving to Rochdale in July 1999. He was ever-present as they reached the FA Cup fifth round in 2002-03, joining Kidderminster Harriers in July 2005. Now coaches youngsters.

JEAN-JACQUES EYDELIE: Experienced French midfielder who joined Walsall on a three-month loan from Sion in March 1998. He was given his debut in The Saddlers' 2-1 win at leaders Watford and made 11 second division appearances while at Bescot Stadium. After leaving Walsall, he played in Switzerland.

SIGGI EYJOLFSSON: Icelandic Youth striker who joined Walsall from IF Akranes in January 1999 and scored in that season's promotion-clinching 3-1 victory at home to Oldham Athletic. He was regularly used as a substitute, netting twice in 23 League games and loaned to Chester before returning to Iceland and is now Technical Director with the Icelandic FA.

ROY FAULKNER: Ex-Manchester City inside-right who starred in Walsall's 1959-60 fourth division title triumph. He also featured in the 1960-61 promotion campaign, netting 44 goals in 100 League outings prior to joining Wellington Town in July 1961. Later a sales rep for a Midlands firm, he lives in Brocton.

RON FEARON: Former Reading and Ipswich goalkeeper who joined Walsall from Sutton United in February 1993 and made his only League appearance in that month's 2-1 victory at home to Carlisle. He later played for Southend United, Leyton Orient, Dover, Barnet and Hendon, teaching at Davenaut School.

JIMMY FELL: Ex-Grimsby and Everton winger who moved to Walsall from Newcastle United in March 1962, scoring four times in 21 League outings prior to joining Lincoln City in January 1964. Later with Boston United and Skegness, he worked at Grimsby Leisure Centre for 22 years until retirement.

GRAHAM FENTON: Former Aston Villa and England Under-21 striker who joined Walsall from Leicester City in March 2000 and scored once in nine League games prior to joining Stoke City in August 2000. He later played for St. Mirren, Blackpool, Darlington and Blyth Spartans, settling back in his native north-east.

LES FERRIDAY: Versatile wing-half who moved to Walsall from Buxton in May 1954 and his solitary goal in 32 third division (south) games clinched the 3-3 draw at home to Newport County six months later. He returned to Buxton in July 1955 and now lives back in his native Manchester in retirement.

JOCK FINLAY: Scottish forward who played for Clyde, New Brighton, Leeds United and Yeovil Town prior to joining Walsall in August 1953. He was unable to prevent The Saddlers finishing bottom of the third division (south), making 11 League appearances before moving to Cheltenham Town in July 1954.

SCOTT FITZGERALD: Former Watford striker who joined struggling Walsall on loan from Brentford in February 2006. He was given his debut in that month's 2-0 defeat by Oldham Athletic but was unable to prevent The Saddlers from being relegated, making five League One appearances while at Bescot Stadium. Turned out for AFC Wimbledon early in 2006/07.

DOUG FLACK: Goalkeeper who joined Walsall from Fulham in August 1953 and contested a first-team slot with Gordon Chilvers, making 11 third division (south) appearances. He then coached Corinthian Casuals and Tooting & Mitcham, working for an aircraft-instrument company, settling in Old Coulsdon.

JACK FLAVELL: Ex-West Brom reserve left-back who joined Walsall from Brierley Hill in September 1953 and made 22 League appearances before moving to Stourbridge in July 1954. The England cricketer played 392 matches for Worcestershire between 1949 and 1967. He died in Barmouth in February 2004.

GRAEME FORBES: Scottish central defender who was an experienced figure in Walsall's 1987-88 promotion campaign and scored nine times in 173 League games until becoming involved in a wages dispute with the club. He joined Dundee in July 1991 and featured in their 1991-92 promotion success.

CLIVE FORD: Versatile forward who joined Walsall from Wolves in December 1964 and made 14 League appearances prior to joining Lincoln City in February 1967. He later played for Los Angeles Wolves in the United States, then had a spell with Cambridge City before moving to Australia.

GARY FORD: Former York City winger who joined struggling Walsall on loan from Port Vale in March 1990, scoring twice in 13 third division games for The Saddlers. He later played for Mansfield Town, Lillestrom, Tromso, Telford United, Harstad and Hartlepool United, settling back in his native York.

SAM FORT: Right-back who joined struggling Walsall from Retford Town in February 1954 and displaced Les Horne in defence, but was unable to prevent The Saddlers finishing bottom of the third division (south). He made 28 League appearances prior to joining Banbury Spencer in July 1955.

TREVOR FOSTER: Versatile forward who signed professional for Walsall in July 1959 and was a fringe member of the squad that won promotion in two consecutive seasons. He scored 12 times in 63 League outings for his home-town club before moving to Dudley in July 1965. Still living locally in retirement.

REG FOULKES: Ex-England Schoolboy centre-half who was ever-present for Walsall in two consecutive seasons, netting six goals in 160 League games before joining Norwich City in May 1950. Later Wisbech Town's player-boss, then with King's Lynn, he was an accountant in his native Shrewsbury until retirement.

DANIEL FOX: Former Everton trainee left-back who followed Anthony Gerrard to Bescot Stadium in July 2005. He was given his League debut in Walsall's 2-1 victory at Rotherham the following month and had a spell as captain, making 33 League One appearances as The Saddlers battled to avoid relegation in 2005/06.

DOUG FRASER: Former West Brom and Scotland International defender who joined Walsall from Nottingham Forest in July 1973 and made 27 third division appearances, managing The Saddlers between January 1974 and March 1977. He was subsequently a prison officer in Nottingham until his retirement.
