Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.

ROGER BOLI: Former French Under-21 International striker who was Walsall's leading marksman in 1997-98 and scored 12 times in 41 second division games before being sold to Dundee United for £150,000 in July 1998. He joined AFC Bournemouth three months later but was plagued by injuries and retired in July 1999. He is now a football agent in his native France.

ALAN BOSWELL: Young goalkeeper who made 66 League appearances prior to joining Shrewsbury Town in August 1963. He moved to Wolves in September 1968, then played for Bolton Wanderers, Port Vale and Oswestry. Still living in Shrewsbury, he has run his own Border Automatics for the past 28 years.

TODDY BOWEN: The son of pre-war Walsall forward Tommy Bowen, this former Newport County winger netted seven goals in 94 League games for The Saddlers prior to joining Hereford United in July 1953. He later played for Hednesford, Bromsgrove and Brierley Hill and is now a retired factory worker.

JOE BOYDEN: Left-back who played for Walsall YMCA prior to joining The Saddlers in December 1948 and made four League appearances before moving to Brierley Hill in July 1953, then played for Dudley and Bloxwich. He spent 49 years with J. Legge & Co in Willenhall until retiring in February 1992.

LEE BRADBURY: Former England Under-21 striker who had two spells with Portsmouth before moving to Walsall in March 2004. His solitary goal in eight League games clinched the 1-0 victory at Derby County the following month and he joined Oxford United in July 2004, then Southend United in January 2006.

DARREN BRADLEY: Ex-England Youth International who played for Aston Villa and West Brom prior to joining Walsall in August 1995. He helped The Saddlers reach the FA Cup fourth round in 1995-96 and scored once in 71 League games before moving to Solihull Borough in July 1997, then played for Hednesford Town.

MARK BRADLEY: Welsh Youth midfielder, who can also play in central defence, he progressed through the ranks at Bescot Stadium and made his League debut in Walsall's 3-0 victory at home to Stockport County in May 2005. He captained The Saddlers' youth team to the 2006 Midland Youth Cup Final and has now made four appearances in all competitions.

COLIN BRAZIER: Former Wolves central defender who scored four times in 115 League outings for Walsall prior to joining Kidderminster Harriers in October 1986. He gained England Semi-Pro honours during four years at Aggborough, then played for Tamworth. Now a factory foreman living in Measham.

DES BREMNER: Former Scotland International midfielder who starred for Aston Villa and Birmingham City, joining Walsall from Fulham in March 1990. He played six League games for The Saddlers before moving to Stafford Rangers in August 1990, later coaching at Villa's Academy and working for the PFA.

JACK BRIDGETT: Versatile centre-half who joined Walsall from West Brom in August 1950 and netted 18 goals in 106 League games before joining Worcester City in May 1955, then played for Abergavenny. He later managed Blakenall and was an education welfare officer for Walsall Metropolitan Borough.

IAN BRIGHTWELL: Ex-Manchester City and England Under-21 right-back who featured in Walsall's 2000-01 second division play-off final triumph. Making 81 League appearances for The Saddlers before joining Stoke City in March 2002, he has since played under Brian Horton at Port Vale and Macclesfield Town.

JASON BRISSETT: Skilful winger who featured in Walsall's 1998-99 promotion success and scored twice in 42 League outings for The Saddlers prior to joining Leyton Orient in July 2000 after a loan spell at Cheltenham Town. He moved to Stevenage Borough in January 2001 but was sidelined by an ankle injury.

JOE BROAD: Young midfielder who played for Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United before becoming an early Paul Merson signing for Walsall in August 2004. He made 12 League One appearances for The Saddlers and had a lengthy loan period at Redditch United prior to joining Truro City in January 2006.

KEVAN BROADHURST: Central defender who reunited with Alan Buckley at Walsall on loan from Birmingham City in November 1979 and made three consecutive League appearances for The Saddlers. He was Blues' youth coach, then Northampton Town's manager between October 2001 and January 2003 before being appointed into the Walsall hot-seat in February 2006. However, he left the club when relegation was confirmed towards the end of 2005/06.

ALLY BROWN: Experienced striker who was leading marksman as Walsall reached the Milk Cup semi-finals in 1983-84 and netted 13 goals in 38 League games prior to joining Port Vale in July 1984. He has since been a publican in Aldridge and steward of West Brom's Throstle Club near The Hawthorns.

KEITH BROWN: Young right-back who signed professional for Walsall in July 1973 and made his League debut in the 2-0 win at Blackburn Rovers five months later. He provided cover for John Saunders and played ten League games before joining Tividale in July 1975, remaining in the West Midlands.

RICHARD BROWN: Teenage left-back who turned professional in March 1992 and played nine fourth division games for Walsall prior to joining Hednesford Town in October 1992. He moved via Willenhall to Paget Rangers in July 1993 and gave them fine service over eight seasons before joining Rushall Olympic for whom he is still a key player.

TOMMY BROWN: Scottish inside-forward who joined Walsall from Ipswich Town in June 1956, scoring nine times in 38 League outings before moving to Worcester City in June 1958. He starred in their 1958-59 FA Cup run, then played for Nuneaton Borough. Subsequently returning to Scotland, he died in June 2000.

WALLY BROWN: Versatile outside-right who joined Walsall from home-town Oakengates in October 1940 and appeared in the first post-war League match at Fellows Park, netting four goals in 20 League outings for the Saddlers before moving to Worcester City in July 1948. He died in Telford in March 1989.

TOMMY BROWNLEE: Centre-forward who scored 14 times in 30 League outings prior to joining York City in December 1958, then played for Workington, Netherfield, Bradford City and Netherfield again. He became a supervisor for Thames Board (Unilever) pulp mill and still lives in Seaton, near Workington.

MATT BRYANT: Central defender who joined Walsall on loan from Bristol City in August 1990, making 13 fourth division appearances for The Saddlers and scoring the first League goal at Bescot Stadium as he put through his own net. He was voted City's Player of the Year in 1994-95 and moved to Gillingham for £65,000 in August 1996. Injury problems forced his retirement in June 2001.

ALAN BUCKLEY: Ace marksman who netted 174 goals in 319 League games overall during two spells at Walsall and was The Saddlers' player-manager for seven years until August 1986. He later achieved managerial success with Kettering Town, Grimsby Town, West Brom, Grimsby again and Lincoln City.

GABOR BUKRAN: Hungarian International midfielder who featured in Walsall's 2000-01 promotion campaign, coming on as a substitute in the memorable play-off Final triumph. He netted four goals in 73 League games before moving to Wigan Athletic in August 2001, then joined Austrian side SV Salzburg. He has recently been playing in Belgium with Royal Antwerp and Union Royale Namur.

PETER BULLOCK: Ex-England Youth striker who played alongside his brother Mickey at Birmingham and joined Walsall from Exeter in December 1968, making seven League appearances before moving to Stafford Rangers in July 1969. He lives in Trentham and for the past 35 years has worked for Michelin.

BOB BURGESS: Scottish centre-forward who joined Walsall from Third Lanark in September 1953 and scored on his debut in that month's 1-1 draw at Colchester, also featuring in the 2-0 defeat at Coventry. Later with Kettering and Kingstanding, he was a member of Walmley Golf Club and died in July 2005.

DEON BURTON: Jamaican International striker who reunited with Paul Merson at Walsall on loan from Portsmouth in September 2003 and made three first division appearances whilst at Bescot Stadium. He moved from Pompey to Brentford in August 2004, since playing for Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday.

MARTIN BUTLER: Striker who signed professional for Walsall in May 1993 and scored eight times in 74 League outings prior to joining Cambridge United in August 1997. He was a promotion winner in 1998-99, then with Reading in 2001-02. Moving to Rotherham in September 2003, he rejoined Walsall in the summer of 2006 and made an explosive goalscoring start to make him a firm favourite amongst the fans.

DARREN BYFIELD: Jamaican International striker who joined Walsall from Aston Villa in June 2000 and scored the winner in the 2000-01 second division play-off Final. He netted 13 goals in 75 League games prior to joining Rotherham in March 2002, since playing for Sunderland, Gillingham and Millwall.
