Why I'm 'Proud To Be' by Jim Davis, Daventry, Northamptonshire. (formerly of Aldridge)

Walsall v Reading
Millennium Stadium, Sunday, 27th May 2001
Not once in our 120 year history have we ever managed a Wembley appearance of any sort so the Play - Off Final versus Reading at the Millennium Stadium was the first time Walsall had played in a major final at a National Stadium.
What a game of highs and lows, what a beautiful game this is when the result finally swings your way. Having twice fallen behind, the second time in the first few minutes of extra time, I thought we had blown it and I was mentally preparing myself to face defeat gracefully when, Bang!
Reading defender Barry Hunter attempting to clear the ball out of the Reading box thumps the ball out onto the head of a prostrate Tony Rougier only to see the ball loop up and over the head of the stranded goalkeeper to draw us level.
Then a minute later Darren Byfield cooly slots the ball wide of the Reading keeper to put us in front for the first time in the game with time running out for Reading and their massed supporters, who far outnumbered the Saddlers support at least 3 to 1, we came out winners!
Exhausted through shouting and drained from a roller coaster ride of emotions I am not ashamed to say I cried when I stood watching Sir Ray and the boys celebrating this famous victory and promotion back to the Championship.
I could have danced all the way back to Northamptonshire, I was on such a high.
Never in 36 years of supporting Walsall have I felt so much pride and happiness at the success of my hometown club. We had won something!
Why I'm 'Poud To Be' by Danny Robson, aged 13 from Somerset
I am from Somerset and I am proud to come up from where I live (Carhampton, Minehead) to watch my heroes play - even though I have seen them won once out of my nine visits! The win was against Cheltenham Town last November.
I am proud that we have a great youth set-up and great players at our club like Ishmel Demontagnac , Jabo Ibehre, Troy Deeney , Netan Sansara, Richard Taundry and Michael Ricketts.
I could go on and on, that is why I am proud to support Walsall FC.
Why I'm 'Poud To Be' by Andy Bugge, born in Stone, Staffordshire.
There's a county in the Republic of Ireland called Kilkenny where my wife is from.
When I first visited there some 15 years ago, the regulars in the local pub thought I was Polish as my now father in law had said that I supported Warsaw!
After a night in the bar with the regulars and much explaining and gesticulating had gone on I finally convinced them where Walsall was and who we were! Now we have a signed football and a pendant in the bar and much money is made when we win and my name's mud when we lose!
So if you're ever in Kilkenny, ask for directions to Lenehans Pub, out on the Cromer Road , have a pint or two, see the boys at the bar and see a little part of Ireland that will be forever Walsall!
