Darren Wrack

STARTED his career with Derby County, where he signed professional forms in July 1994 before securing a £100,000 switch to Grimsby Town exactly two years later after just a handful of appearances for The Rams.

During his time at Blundell Park he was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town in February 1997 but eventually made a permanent move to Walsall in August 1998, becoming one of Ray Graydon's first signings for the club.

A wide-player of undoubted talent and ability who was a popular figure both on and off-the-field, he has made a solid contribution to The Saddlers' cause over the subsequent years and as a result was subject of plenty of interest from other clubs.

After a consistent 2002/03 campaign, the following season was blighted by injury. However, despite featuring in just over half our League games, Wrack managed to finish as joint-second top scorer, with six goals to his name.

His versatility and desire once again proved to be key attributes to the side in 2004/05 as he established a regular starting place and weighed in with a total of eight goals in all competitions.

After several weeks of speculation, he signed a new three-year deal on June 22nd 2005 that included a richly-deserved Testimonial at the end of the agreement.

His 2005/06 campaign lasted only a matter of weeks when a nasty leg break suffered in our clash at Yeovil Town in September 2005 left him facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The injury was so bad that there were initial fears that his career may be over, but he displayed plenty of determination to battle back to fitness and returned to action in October 2006, scoring on his first-team return against Swansea in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

He went on to have a solid campaign in League One in 2007/08 as we secured a top-half finish, with his experience and know-how helping those emerging youngsters around him.

On his day, he was a key figure for The Saddlers and his ten years at the club coincided with one of our most fruitful and successful eras.
