Ron Green
RON GREEN'S League career spanned 14 years from 1977 to 1991. He began with Alvechurch before joining The Saddlers as a professional in the summer of 1977.
He won a regular place in the first-team at Fellows Park during the 1979/80 campaign, appearing in 163 League games for the club and helping us gain promotion from Division Four in 1980 before linking up with Shrewsbury Town in June 1984 after a brief loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.
He failed to hold down a regular starting place at Gay Meadow and went on loan to Bristol Rovers before signing permanently for The Pirates in February 1985.
His next move saw him spend two seasons with Scunthorpe United (August 1986 to May 1988) and he followed this with four League games for Wimbledon, who paid £20,000 for his services.
17 outings on loan with former club, Shrewsbury Town and a brief spell with Manchester City came next before he returned to Walsall in a £20,000 deal on transfer deadline day 1989.
Green went on to push his overall Saddlers' appearance tally past the 450-mark before drifting out of The Football League to join Kidderminster Harriers in August 1991.
He was drafted back into League action in November 1992 when he was signed on loan by his former Walsall ream-mate, Roy McDonough for Colchester United.
After leaving Kidderminster Harriers, he went on to serve Bromsgrove Rovers, Shrewsbury Town (non-contract), Happy Valley FC (Hong Kong), Bromsgrove Rovers (again), Hereford United (non-contract), Redditch United, Bromsgrove Rovers (for a third time), Moor Green, Oldbury United and Boldmere St. Michaels.
He was Community Liaison Officer at Coventry City as well as coaching part-time at the Walsall FC Centre of Excellence.
He is still an important member of The Saddlers' Veterans team.
