SADDLERS' YOUNGSTERS SHARE SPOILS

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

THE SADDLERS' youth team let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 at Shrewsbury Town.

"We started brightly and passed the ball well in a 4-3-3 formation," said Head of Youth, Dean Smith. "We gave Jake Jones a free role and he did particularly well.

"He set up the first goal with a tricky run that ended with Joey Butlin firing home with his left foot

"Jones went on another run that ended with the Shrewsbury 'keeper bringing him down for a penalty which Connor Deards stepped up to take and made no mistake to double our advantage.

"For the first 70 minutes of the game we were in control and frustrated our hosts with our ball retention. However, a defensive error let them back into it to reduce the arrears.

"It gave them the momentum and they were able to equalise when a corner was deflected into the net.

"Despite losing a two-goal lead, I was pleased with the overall performance; we tried to pass with purpose and gave a good account of ourselves."
