BITTERSWEET FOR MACKEN

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

JON MACKEN grabbed a late goal on his Saddlers' debut as we went down to a 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Saturday.

The 32 year-old hitman came off the bench to curl home a 20 yard strike in injury time but revealed afterwards that it was a bittersweet moment. Macken was obviously delighted to open his Walsall account but was disappointed with the result.

"First and foremost it was disappointing that we couldn't get a result," he said. "We performed well in stages, but we won't get too disheartened because the performance was there.

"It's good that we are creating chances; we know that there is still hard work to do, but we are improving as a team.

"I was pleased to start with a goal and now I want to build on this and continue to push on. I'm already looking forward to the next game."
