DWAYNE Mattis is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with his former team-mates tomorrow night as Chesterfield visit the Banks's Stadium in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The 29 year-old midfielder swapped The Saddlers for the Spireites in the summer and, with his new side plying their trade in League Two, didn't expect to be crossing paths with Chris Hutchings' Men so soon after departing.

"I was really pleased and surprised when the draw was made," he told The Saddler, Walsall's matchday programme. "A few of my team-mates text me to tell me that we'd got Walsall and I've been looking forward to the game ever since.

"Because we're not in the same division, I didn't think I'd be coming back here so soon and it'll be nice to see a few friendly faces. I'm sure the banter will be flying as soon as I get into the dressing room.

"I was one of a few lads who left in the summer but I'm sure the likes of Daz (Darren Byfield) and Manny (Smith) will be giving me some good natured stick! I made some good friends at Walsall and it will be good to see them all again.

"There were no hard feelings when I left. I think it was the right thing for everyone. I was travelling up and down the motorway from home in Huddersfield and that wasn't good for me or the club I suppose. The chance came up to come to Chesterfield and I'm glad I have."
