NEW BOY, Reuben Reid had a Saddlers' debut to remember against his former club, Plymouith Argyle, at the weekend as he scored the winning goal and walked away with the Man of the Match prize.
The 22 year-old, who arrived on the eve of the game on loan from West Bromwich Albion until January, was given a standing ovation when he was substituted with eight minutes to go.
"I'm happy that my debut went well," he said. "It was nice to get three points against a good team and I was also quite pleased with my own performance.
"It's always nice to get a positive reaction from the fans. As I was leaving the field I was concentrating on getting off alive as I was really blowing at that point, but to hear the applause of the crowd gave me a big lift.
"There was a feel-good factor as soon as I walked into the club and this can only help with my performances."
Reid's goal gave The Saddlers our first home win of the season. "Plymouth had plenty of experience in their side and, of course, have only just come down from The Championship. They took the lead against the run of play, but we did extremely well to get back into the game and deservedly take the points.
"It was a good team performance and hopefully we can carry this on into the next game.
"From my own personal point of view, I need to get back into the swing of things. I've not played as much as I would have liked over the past year; I just want to play regularly and score goals. I am thankful to Walsall for giving me this opportunity and I just want to work hard and prove that I am worthy of a place in the team.
"Last year was way too stop-start for me and now I intend to do well for myself and Walsall."
