PAUL Marshall was full of smiles as he scored his first goal for the club in our excellent 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle.

The summer signing entered the action just before half-time as a replacement for knee injury victim, Steve Jones. "I was speaking to my dad before the game and he said that I had to be ready because someone could get injured at any time," he said. "I took that on board, warmed up well and when Steve Jones went down I was ready to step in and take his place.

"To score so early on really lifted my confidence, it was more of a skill header than a bullet header. I think it's the first senior goal that I have scored with my head, so I am buzzing about that.

"I'm really enjoying my time at the club. I needed to leave Manchester City; it was a completely different club to the one that I left on loan in January and it was poor the way in which the young lads were treated. This is a good move for me; we have a good squad, which has been strengthened with the arrival of Jon Macken and Reuben Reid, and I feel that we can really push on and build upon these last two results.

"From a personal point of view, my appetite has been whetted now and I want to try and establish a regular place in the side."
