HOT ON the heels of the loan capture of Reuben Reid from West Bromwich Albion, we are pleased to announce that experienced front-man, Jon Macken has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal with a further year's option.

Macken has spent the past week training with the club. The 32 year-old hit-man has been transferred for over £5 million during a glittering career that has included spells at Manchester United, Preston North End, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Derby County and Barnsley.

He has scored over 100 senior goals and has been capped by the Republic of Ireland. "Jon is a goalscorer," said manager, Chris Hutchings. "He has scored goals wherever he has been and has played at the highest level.

"He has spent all of his career either at Premier League or Championship level and I expect him to be a real force in League One.

"This is an excellent signing for the club."

Macken, who will wear squad number ten, stands by to make his Saddlers' debut on Saturday for the visit of Plymouth Argyle (kick-off 3.00pm).
