SUMMER signing, Paul Marshall stands by for his Saddlers' League debut on Saturday and could come up against a familiar face.

The England Under-20 International came through the ranks at Manchester City before being released at the end of last season. During his time at Eastlands, he worked alongside German International, Dietmar Hamann, who joined MK Dons during the summer as player-coach.

"Dietmar was my mentor at one stage and I really looked up to him," said Marshall, who spent part of last season on loan at Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League. "When he was in the team and I was coming up through the ranks I played a couple of games with him in the reserves.

"He taught me a lot; when I played with him I always knew where I was supposed to be. He'd talk you through things and was always in the right place. He knew where to be and is just quality.

"He hasn't got the legs any more but he's going to try to stay in the centre circle and control things from there. It will be quality playing against him, he's a bit of a dirty player - you run past him and he can't resist a little niggle but that's his experience."
