THE SADDLERS' youth team beat their Birmimgham City counter-parts by one goal to nil.

"It was a decent game in terms of possession," said Head of Youth, Dean Smith. "We kept the ball well but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

"We missed a number of chances in the first half, but took a deserved lead when Jack Cresswell took the ball off the Blues centre half before lobbing the 'keeper.

"I was generally pleased with our passing, but the final ball let us down on too many occasions and that is something we will be working on as we prepare for the start of the new  season on August 14th.

"All in all it was a useful exercise for us and a good win."

The youngsters head to Dales Lane on Tuesday evening to take on Rushall Olympic (kick-off 7.45pm).
