WALSALL v COVENTRY CITY - JUNIOR REPORT

Posted on: Tue 27 Jul 2010

WALSALL FC's junior reporter, Che-Ruby Campbell gives her view of The Saddlers pre-season friendly clash with Coventry City...

The Walsall and Coventry teams both walked on to the pitch and shook hands. The match then kicks off to a lot of passing but to everyone's surprise, three minutes in to the game, a team member from Coventry shoots; ready to score against Walsall. However, the referee calls off the goal as it's offside.

The game continues and, again, there is a lot of passing. After a while, a player gets injured when the ball hits him in his face and he goes off the pitch.

James McPake gets a warning off the ref after fouling. Afterwards, Troy Deeney nearly scores but hits the goal post following the Walsall fans disappointment. Ben Turner went to kick the ball but unfortunately for him he kicks the ball too hard and he boots it out of the stadium.

Richard Taundery has the ball and starts making his way up to the goal but when he went to score he just about misses the goal. There was a lot of good passing between the players. Roy O' Donovan dribbles the ball all the way to the goal and he attempts to shoot it in but the ball just misses the target.

There's an extra minute added on in the first half but still nobody scores.

The second half kicks off. Already Darren Byfield and then Roy O' Donovan for Coventry almost scores but they both miss by a slight touch.

While the ref was running he slips and almost falls to the ground. Everytime the goalie goes to kick the ball the atmosphere between the Coventry fans is alive.

Fifteen minutes into the second half match Freddy Eastwood scores for Coventry. Coventry fans went wild. For Walsall, sub 18 replaces Alex Nicholls. For Coventry, sub 15 replaces Roy O' Donovan.

Unfortunately for Darren Byfield he gets hit in the face with the ball and is taken off the pitch.

A lot of the footballers get replaced by substitutes. Walsall keep on trying to fight back by shooting towards Coventry goal but they just can't seem to get it in.

There is three minutes added on to the game. On the forty-eighth minute, Sean Jeffers scores for Coventry making it 2-0 to Coventry.

All in all it was a sad day for the Saddlers as they lose 2-0.
