THE WALSALL FC Community Department have just finished the final term of Talented & Gifted Development Coaching for this season.
Players from Under-6 to Under-16 have been training with our Qualified Coaches to develop their skills and improve their game.
This season we have seen four more players graduate into our Centre of Excellence, making a total of eight players in the first two years of the programme.
One of our current Under-6's, Spencer Worley, is currently flying high on two sporting fronts. As well as showing promise with his footballing ability, young Spencer is also excelling at golf.
Spencer has qualified to represent the United Kingdom in the Callaway Junior World Championship, based at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
The youngster won one of only two places available in his age group at a qualifying event run by the British Junior Golf Tour.
At just six years of age, he will be teeing up in a competition that has been won in the past by names such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson and Ernie Els.
The event, which has been running in the United States since the 1960s, is recognised as the most historical and prestigious junior golf tournament in the world with children travelling from all corners of the globe to demonstrate their talents at the highest level.
Spencer's parents are, naturally, very proud of the fact that he has qualified for such an event and would like him to 'have fun and enjoy the experience' whilst playing in the tournament from July 13th to 15th.
The Saddlers' Community Officer and Under-6 coach, Adam Davy, added: "Spencer is a pleasure to coach. He shows good skill and aptitude at football and has an eye for the game.
"He displays a good understanding of the skills we teach on a Monday night and I wish him all the best in San Diego and hope he really enjoys the experience.
"I can't wait to see him back next season and ask him all about it!"
