DESPITE a somewhat slow start, Darryl Westlake still believes that England can make it to at least the final four of the World Cup.
The 19 year-old Young Player of the Season, who signed a new two-year deal at Banks's Stadium earlier this week, has watched every game of the tournament so far and is enjoying the feast of football from South Africa.
"I enjoy watching football on TV, so to have three matches on each day at the moment is heaven for me," he said with a smile. "I love the World Cup and it's shaping up to be an interesting tournament.
"I've said all along that Argentina will win it and after seeing them beat Nigeria on Saturday, I stick by that. They were by no means at their best, but they have so many top-quality attacking options and that will set them apart from everyone else.
"Germany have impressed me most so far. As ever, they looked solid, well-organised and ran out convincing winners against Australia. They will take some beating, as they always do on the big stage.
"I expect one of the African nations to really make their mark and progress to the closing stages. Ghana seem to have something about them, whilst Ivory Coast could make their mark. As hosts, South Africa also have the potential to do well, but I don't think that an African nation will win it this time.
"As for England, everyone knows that we fell below the standards we expect against USA, but I am confident that we will make up for it in our next two group games and qualify for the next stage.
"We have enough about us to make it into the semi-finals, and then who knows?"
