HAVING completed a productive and enjoyable maintenance week, The Saddlers' players have the month of June off in which to recharge their batteries ahead of the start of pre-season training at the beginning of July.

"It's been a long and tiring season," admitted Troy Deeney. "I have a couple of holidays planned and it will be nice to spend time with my family before getting back to work.

"It's good to just chill out and generally not think about football, although obviously I'll have my eye on the World Cup this summer. Relaxation is important at this time of year so that mentally we are ready to go again come July.

"Me and some of my mates have arranged to go to a training camp in the Canary Islands with a personal trainer later in June, so that will help when pre-season training starts."

Deeney finished the 2009/10 campaign as leading goalscorer with 14 goals to his name and also scooped the Player of the Season award. "I was pleased with what I achieved last season," he added. "Generally I thought that I played okay and my game is getting a lot better, but I was still surprised to win the Player of the Season award.

"My aim is to be the first Walsall player in over ten years to score 20 goals in a season next year and put myself in the record books."
