GOALKEEPER, Rene Gilmartin put in a Man of the Match display at the weekend to help ten-man Walsall overcome the challenge of play-off hopefuls, Colchester United.

The Irishman is hoping to build on the performance as we make the long trip down to Southend United this evening, where another winning result will take us onto the 50-point mark.

"Going down to ten men and then getting the winning goal in the last minute really helps to bring the team together," he said. "Everyone was buzzing in the dressing room after the game and we will take that into the Southend match.

"The back four did great on Saturday. As you would expect, the pressure started to tell on our ten men towards the end, but I did what I had to do and the rest of the lads showed great character and determination to get the result.

"Darren took his goal really well and it was brilliant for all of us. The key now is to take it into the next game and we head to Southend full of confidence.

"Games like Saturday help to bring us on and we will be looking to continue in the same vein at Roots Hall. We're all winners and we go there determined to bring home all three points."
