THE SADDLERS Learning Centre Manager, Sue Lane, has completed her walk from Banks's Stadium to the Training Ground in Broad Lane, Essington in aid of Sport Relief.
Setting off at 7.30am on Thursday morning, the seven-mile trek took two hours and 15 minutes. "I am so pleased that I did it," she said as she arrived at the Training Ground to be greeted by manager, Chris Hutchings and assistant, Martin O'Connor, who promptly served up a hard-earned cup of tea. "I set little targets in my mind all along the route and hoped to complete the walk in three hours, so in the end I was ahead of schedule.
"There were a couple of occasions when I wondered if my legs would hold up, but I got there in the end and feel really proud that I did it."
The motivation behind doing the walk came from Sue's daughter, Rebecca, who works for Comic Relief. "My daughter went out to Kenya a few years ago to see where some of the money raised went to and since then I have been determined to do something to help.
"In 2008 I walked a mile-a-day around the Banks's Stadium pitch for 25 consecutive days and the money I raised on that occasion educated 70 children in Africa for six months. Hopefully the money I raise this time will also go a long way because there are so many worthwhile sports-related projects in this country.
"It's nice to do something for someone else and get fit and active at the same time."
Sue is gradually nearing her target of raising £300. It's not too late to show your support. "Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be much appreciated," she added as she enjoyed a deserved rest.
